IBU reinforces commitment to Good Governance with GSI appointment
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced the appointment of Global Sports Investigations (GSI) to operate its independent whistleblowing hotline and independent ethics office.
The appointment reinforces the IBU’s commitment to enhancing its good governance structures and follows the IBU Congress’ ratification of a new Code of Ethics in September 2019. GSI will ensure that any matters raised through the whistleblowing hotline will be managed independently and appropriately, and that should any breaches of the IBU’s rules and codes occur they will be identified, investigated and addressed swiftly. A suspected breach of any governance, ethics or integrity regulations or provisions of the IBU can be reported on https://www.biathlonworld.com/ethics-reporting/.
Global Sports Investigations (GSI), a joint venture between TSC Legal, The Sports Consultancy and Quest delivers a combined team of expert, sports-specific investigators, lawyers and consultants offering sports federations and other bodies a range of governance, ethics, integrity and investigations services. This combined and comprehensive offering is unique in the sports world.
Commenting on the appointment Ashley Blake, Partner, TSC Legal and General Counsel, The Sports Consultancy said:
“GSI has made huge steps forward since its launch just over a year ago and this appointment by the IBU, building on our existing client base, further recognises the need for the service in sport. In a climate of ever-increasing scrutiny into the welfare of athletes, and the rising emphasis on integrity, transparency and the better governance of sport, the need for truly independent, sports-specific, professional management of monitoring services, as well as investigations and inquiries, has never been more paramount.”
Eddie Marshbaum, Director of Sports Integrity at Quest added:
“We are delighted to be working with the IBU on such a vital initiative. By providing a strictly independent, dedicated facility for concerns to be raised, evaluated and addressed, IBU is taking the lead in applying best practice governance and ensuring that the highest standards of integrity are promoted and maintained within the organisation.”
Olle Dahlin, IBU President stated:
“The IBU is dedicated to protecting the integrity of our sport and promoting good governance within our organisation. It is vital that we not only reform our governance in line with international best practice but that we also have structures in place to ensure that these high standards are met. GSI will deliver invaluable support by monitoring compliance and ensuring that any breaches are independently investigated.”
